ShelbyKY welcomes families to head outside this fall for nonstop outdoor fun and activities. Find plenty of fresh-picked produce, an abundance of colorful decorations and lots of freshly made goodies to tempt your taste buds. Pet the animals, or take one for a spin. Visit the pumpkin patch for the perfect pumpkin to take home and navigate your way through the corn maze.

Open for fall-fun is the family-owned Mulberry Orchard. Take a hay ride through the orchard, visit the farm animals and let the little ones run loose in the kids’ play area while you relax in a rocking chair and drink in the scenic splendor of an autumn landscape.

Shop for fresh produce, jellies, preserves, butters, salsas and local honey. Afterward, cozy up to the campfire and roast s’mores. Don’t forget to pick your pumpkin from the pumpkin patch.

At family-owned Gallrein Farms, a petting zoo area is available for the kids and a marketplace full of farm fresh fruits & vegetables, jams, jellies, sweet treat baked items. Shop for colorful gourds, Indian corn and mums and make sure to take a bag of corn home to savor the trip well after you’ve gone home.

There are wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, delicious bites, and more. Head into the four-acre corn maze or hop aboard the John Deere barrel train.

 

For a stay near the downtown sights and sounds check out Morning Glory Cottage. This lovingly restored 1880’s Folk Victorian is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath that is furnished with period antique furniture and accessories that make you feel like you are living in 1880, but with all of today’s lifestyles.

 

Burn off your extra energy at Red Fern Riding Center at Shelby Trails Park. This park features gorgeous hiking trails that are available for free, but you can also have a private, guided horseback ride. With 25 scenic wooded trails covering 462 acres, this equestrian’s sanctuary features unsurpassed views of Kentucky Horse Country. One-hour family-friendly rides include a short introductory riding lesson to help guests get comfortable in the saddle before hitting the dusty trail. Guided rides can accommodate groups of up to five riders.

If you happen to be traveling through ShelbyKY and have your horse with you, you can purchase a day pass that allows you to ride the trails independently and with your own horse.

 

The Shelby County Parks System offers some exciting trails to get moving and enjoy the beautiful autumn views.

The Greenway Trail extends through Shelbyville. Whether you explore by foot, bike, or rollerblades, there are a number of styles to enjoy the vast greenery. If you’re lucky you may even spot a deer or turtle during your visit. With the trail located right off a creek, a night stroll is a must to take in the tranquility of mother natures’ work.

The Red Orchard Park is another choice for catching the turning leaves. This 131-acre farm was planted around 1792, allowing trees such as walnut, blue ash, and sycamore to blossom into breathtaking views. There has no shortage of space for enjoyment of various activities on this rolling land.

 

A place for the whole family to join in on the shopping fun is the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass. It is Kentucky’s only designer outlet shopping center, located in Simpsonville, Kentucky. 90+ stores including GUCCI, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, The North Face, Under Armour, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, and American Eagle Outfitters.

Make sure when you have worked up an appetite you head over to Milano Italian Restaurant. They have a large menu of traditional Italian dishes, made with extra love as all their sauces and breads are homemade. Open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Make sure you try the calzone – it is bigger than the plate!
