Description
New bourbon-centric restaurant opens in Shelbyville, KY Bourbon Kitchen at 524 creates inclusive community gathering space
The Bourbon Kitchen at 524 opens Tuesday, April 10th on Main Street in Shelbyville, bringing with it a full 50-bourbon bar, signature dishes, all-inclusive menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients, and a welcoming community gathering space. Owned by Heather Veech and her wife, Alli Veech, the two local, entrepreneurially-minded businesswomen want all diners, regardless of individual dietary needs, to feel welcome.
“Our main goal and focus is not just serving good food – although there will plenty of that – but to be as all-inclusive as we can to appease all dietary as well as social needs,” said Heather Veech. “We’ll have a community table in the middle of the restaurant and really hope to be a place for bringing the community together.”
The dinner menu was created by the owners by combining their favorite foods and spending quality time in the kitchen crafting them into original dishes. The restaurant’s bourbon menu was developed with community feedback.
Among the restaurant’s 50 bourbons are fan faves Rabbit Hole, Woodford Reserve and Barterhouse Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Signature dishes include a honey bourbon pork chop, espresso bourbon-glazed steak and bourbon Caprese chicken. Breakfast meats and pork will be sourced from Buckler Farms in Eminence, KY. The owners plan to partner with other Kentucky farms in the future.
Additionally, the Bourbon Kitchen will participate in the Mocktail Project, a movement whose mission is to offer a choice, hope and inclusion.
“One dollar of each Mocktail sold gets sent back to the S.V Foundation,” said Veech. “The organization puts this money right back into the community and provides recovery to our most at-risk and vulnerable citizens.”

Additional Information
The Bourbon Kitchen’s menu of mocktails includes a variety of drinks made with Kombucha, a light and effervescent drink known as the “Immortal Health Elixir” by the Chinese: The Gingerberry Splash, Kombucha on the Beach, Koko-Bucha and Kombucha Mule each feature a layering of flavors with juices, herbs, seasonings and garnishes.
The restaurant interior is artistic, personal and funky. The community table is made from reclaimed barn wood from Frankfort. Three additional handmade wooden tables, “electrocuted” to imprint a pattern, feature bonsai tree designs. An Old Charter Bourbon billboard that previously sat along Interstate 64 in Shelby County now hangs near the bar. An entire wall is devoted to chalkboard paint and art created by the owners.
Bourbon Kitchen at 524 will host community events, including a weekly Sunday brunch, monthly live music, date nights and a variety of community-focused parties. Additionally, the space will be available for private parties after 3 p.m. on Sundays and anytime on Mondays.
