There’s something magical about starting or ending the day by watching the sun move across the horizon. Those moments are further enhanced in ShelbyKY thanks to our natural setting composed of rolling hills and wide-open spaces. Whether you’re wanting to get outside with those close to you, or seeking some alone time to reflect, it’s hard to beat watching sunrises and sunsets here.

Quality Spots for Both Sunrises & Sunsets

Guist Creek Marina: Many Kentuckians are passionate about their time on the lake, and if you witness dawn or dusk out on the water, you’ll understand why. If you don’t have a boat, Guist Creek still has top-notch spots to enjoy the beauty, such as picnic tables and a deck behind GoGo - On the Dock.

Lake Shelby Park & Campground: Another terrific option for boaters, but one distinguishable element to Lake Shelby for those on foot is the Squire Boone Trail Loop. Enjoy the glowing scenery on a walk in one of the most serene, peaceful areas of ShelbyKY.

Red Orchard Park: The center of this space is mostly wide open, and thanks to it being perched on top of a hill, this is a suitable spot if you’re just looking for a place to hop on the hood of your car. Don’t discount the amenities at Red Orchard, though! A fantastic dog park and a revered disc golf course provide some options to get you and/or your furry friends moving around while you enjoy the scenery.

Spots Especially Well-Suited for Sunrises

Shelbyville Country Club: With largely unobstructed views looking eastward, dew-sweeping during an early morning round of golf here can earn you some stellar views of the morning light. If you acquire a membership that includes fishing privileges, you’ll love the scenery and colors produced by the large lake on property.

Spots Especially Well-Suited for Sunsets

Jeptha Creed: The distillery’s patio is an awesome place to be at any time, but sunsets feel particularly special. With a game yard, oftentimes live music playing, and world class bourbon a few steps away, you can enjoy a great view of dusk thanks to their southwest vantage point.

Talon Winery: Enjoy a glass of wine and cheers to the end of the day on Talon’s patio or their outdoor space. Perched atop a pond, this location offers a great, peaceful view of the western skyline.

Weissinger Hills Golf Course: Nothing beats a round of golf at twilight, but even if you aren’t in the middle of a round, the practice area at Weissinger Hills lends itself well to watching the setting sun. This area is perched slightly higher than the rest of the property making it a hidden gem for sunset seekers. Practice your putting amidst the fading light to end the day in style.
